HB 1566 would amend current statute to revise the definition of "work activity" for purposes of the Work First temporary assistance for needy families program (TANF) to change the amount of vocational training time, from twelve months to twenty-four months, to qualify as work activity. The bill would also require the joint legislative audit and review committee to review the impact of extending that time from twelve to twenty-four months.

Substitute Bill Compared to Original Bill: The JLARC report must be submitted to the Legislature by December 1, 2025.

Senate Ways & Means Amendments adopted:

• Subject to funding appropriated specifically for this purpose, allows WorkFirst participants to be extended from 12 months to 24 months.

• Removes the JLARC review of the impact of extending the amount of vocational education training.
