Among other provisions, the bill allows school districts to expend a portion of their learning assistance program allocation on interventions for students identified as at risk of not graduating using the dropout early warning and intervention data system

Additionally, the bill incorporates school-wide tier one preventions and interventions in the existing requirement around school improvement planning; and includes as a requirement of the K-12 dropout prevention, intervention and re-engagement system ongoing professional development for teachers, administrators, and other school staff on instructional best practices related to dropout early warning and intervention data systems and a multi-tiered response to intervention models and other dropout prevention, intervention, and re-engagement practices, including coaching team leads and members for success.

Further, SB5343 encourages school districts to use the needs assessment from the WA integrated student supports protocol in accordance with the protocol framework established previously in law.  And the bill adds requirements to the comprehensive guidance and planning program, including mental health, emotional, and social support services.
