ESHB 5490: Creating the inter-branch advisory committee

ESSB 5490 creates an inter-branch advisory committee that aims to foster cooperation, coordination, communication, collaboration, and planning between the three branches of government. Issues of mutual concern between the three branches of government may include funding legislative mandates, access to justice, courthouse security, court technology infrastructure, etc. Additionally, this committee will suggest ways to provide access to justice and court services in a more equitable manner. The bill delineates the makeup of the Interbranch Advisory Committee. Staff support for the committee will be provided by the Legislative Branch and the Administrative Office of the Courts, with support from the Office of Financial Management upon request. The inter-branch advisory committee will submit a recommendation for committee renewal or change to appropriate legislative committees by November 1, 2024. This legislation will expire on January 1, 2026.
