HB 1540: Sentencing for certain serious offenses committed by persons under eighteen

This act amends RCW 9.94A.730 to state that any person convicted of one or more crimes committed prior to the person’s 18th birthday may petition the indeterminate sentence review board for early release from sentences for those offenses.

RCW 10.95.030 is also amended to include that any person convicted of the crime of aggravated first degree murder for an offense committed prior to the person’s 18th birthday shall be sentenced to a range of total confinement with a maximum and minimum term. The maximum term may not exceed a life sentence, and the minimum term may not exceed 25 years.
