HB 1883: Relating to investigations and family assessments in cases of child abuse and neglect

HB 1883 removes the requirement of a parent, guardian, or custodian to sign an agreement to participate in FAR before services are initiated and instead allows parents to participate after they are informed of their rights under FAR, all of their options, and the options the department has if the parents do not participate in FAR. Additionally, HB 1883 strikes language in current law that requires that a investigation be conducted rather then FAR in cases where the department determines that the allegation ‘constitutes conduct involving a criminal offense that has, or is about to occur, in which the child is the victim.’
