HB 2410 directs the Superintendent of Public Instruction to establish a competitive equipment assistance grant program for public schools to improve the quality of food service meals that meet federal dietary guidelines, increase the consumption of whole foods, and support the use of modified scratch, from scratch, or other cooking methods that enhance overall student nutrition. The sum of $1,500,000 is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 2015, from the common school construction account, for the purpose of fulfilling the requirements of the act.

Substitute bill:  Requires the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction to establish a competitive process to solicit and prioritize applications for the “Apple a Day” program, an equipment assistance grant program, created to enhance student nutrition in public schools.
