This act would extend Medicaid coverage for postpartum people to a full year after giving birth, rather than the current 60 day limit that many individuals face. Further, the act ensures that all pregnant and postpartum people have full Medicaid coverage, facilitate increased access to doula support, and direct a study on telehealth and its potential to improve Medicaid recipients’ access to maternity care. The act would also establish a maternity care home demonstration project to study the effectiveness of innovative maternity home care models, which have shown promise in improving maternal health outcomes.
