This bill states that each of the six four-year institutions of higher education will partner with one or more community or technical colleges to create and implement a peer mentoring program for elementary school students modeled after a pilot program carried out at Western Washington University. Each four-year institution will identify one or more local elementary schools with a demonstrated need for a peer mentoring program, and will also recruit and train interested college students using a curriculum for which college-level credit can be earned. Work-study grants may be awarded to college students participating in this program.
