SB 5365: Relating to increasing the capacity of school districts to recognize and respond to troubled youth

Sponsored by Senator Rolfes, SB 5365 is the companion to HB 1336.

Substitute bill:  As amended, SB 5365: adds language regarding teachers’ ability to uniquely identify signs of emotional and behavioral distress in students;  replaces the term troubled youth with youth in need;  adds school psychologists to the school personnel that must complete a training program on youth suicide screening and referral as a condition of certification; and adds a requirement for the temporary taskforce to explore the potential use of online youth emotional health and crisis response systems that have been developed for use in other countries.
