SB 5595: Concerning prototypical school formulas for physical, social, and emotional support in schools

Companion bill to HB 1985. SSB 5595 updates existing prototypical school formulas concerning specific physical, social, and emotional support staff. Prototypical school formulas are used to illustrate the level of resources needed to operate a school of a particular size, type, and grade level using measures like class size, hours of instruction, and numbers of school staff needed. SSB 5595 re-categorizes school nurses, social workers, psychologists, classified staff providing student and staff safety, parent involvement coordinators, and counselors as physical, social, and emotional support staff instead of health and social services. Additionally, the bill updates the prototypical staffing ratios for some of these staff positions. The bill includes new language around funding for these physical, social, and emotional support staff.
