SB 5640: Concerning youth courts


Amends current law such that Youth Court is defined as  an alternative method of hearing and disposing of traffic infractions, transit infractions, and civil infractions for juveniles ages 12 to 17.  Amends current law in many places to add traffic and civil infractions to existing definitions of Youth Courts.  Allows a  youth court to accept referrals of traffic, transit, or civil infractions from a juvenile court diversion unit committed by youth aged 12-15 if certain conditions are met.

Encourages courts to work with cities, counties and schools to implement expand, or use youth court programs for juveniles.
