SHB 1800: Increasing access to behavioral health services for minors

SHB 1800 states that the Washington State Health Care Authority shall dedicate at least one full-time employee to communicating behavioral health policies impacting minors to the public. The Authority will also convene stakeholders including parents, caregivers, youth, and young adults to design a patient portal to connect families to community resources. The bill also outlines requirements for the Authority’s stakeholder engagement efforts. Additionally, SHB 1800 states that one parent or caregiver of a child who has received behavioral health services will be included on the state office of behavioral health consumer advocacy.

 

Amendment:

Requires the Health Care Authority (HCA) employee that is added in the underlying bill to monitor the HCA website to make sure that the information included is accurate and accessible.  Adds two representatives of MCOs to the advisory council for the State Office of Behavioral Health Consumer Advocacy.  Adds two instead of one parent or caregiver to the statewide advisory council for the State Office of Behavioral Health Consumer Advocacy.  One must be a parent or caregiver of a child  1-12 years of age, and the other of a child 13-17 years.
