SJR 8208: Requiring a two-thirds majority vote of the legislature to raise taxes, a majority vote to raise certain fees, and no advisory vote by the people on tax legislation

Senate Joint Resolution 8209 would instruct the secretary of state of Washington State to submit a ballot measure in the next general election that would mandate approval by a two-thirds majority of the House of Representatives and the Senate in order to raise taxes. The bill would also mandate any fees in a fiscal year be approved by a majority of the House of Representatives and the Senate; however, this requirement would not apply to assessments made by a limited number of state boards and commissions.
