Partners for Our Children welcomes five stellar interns who joined staff this fall and will stay through the 2017-18 academic year.
Jessie Friedmann, Olivia Thai, Antonia Eberhart, Mohanned Al-Afifi, and Clare Rosenkranz will work closely with POC staff assisting with projects, public policy development, research, and communications work.
All interns are University of Washington students; Jessie, Olivia, Antonia and Mohanned are pursuing Master of Social Work degrees, and Clare is starting her senior year as an undergraduate communications student.
“I love working with social media and look forward to updating POC’s Twitter and Facebook feeds,” says Clare.
Olivia, who will be busy monitoring Washington’s budget and policy development process this legislative session, is “looking forward to working with community members and stakeholders who share the collective goal of supporting children and families, and providing them with the resources they need to thrive.”
Antonia plans to graduate in June and will pursue licensure in clinical social work. Her passions are in helping people access and realize their internal strengths and in healing through connection.
At POC Mohanned will help on various projects, evaluate data, and write policy briefs. He is excited to learn more about analyzing current policy and predicting policy changes.
Our interns all have a passion for social work and child welfare, and they look forward to working hands on in these fields.
“I know there is room for improvement in the child welfare system, and I am excited to work for POC and learn more about integrating data and practice to inform good policy,” states Jessie.
Outside of the office and classroom, you can find these students out and about, taking advantage of the many activities Seattle offers. “I love music, so in the evenings I try to attend as many concerts I can. My favorite venue is The Showbox,” says Clare.
Mohanned is an active member of FIUTS (Foundation for International Understanding through Students) where he enjoys talking to children about culture – both American culture and his own Arab culture. He also enjoys rooting for the Seattle Sounders in his free time.
Although Olivia is very busy with school, work and her practicum, she enjoys going to concerts, exploring parks and Seattle neighborhoods, watching football, and drinking lots of coffee. Antonia and Jessie both enjoy spending time outdoors, going for a swim or hiking one of Washington’s many trails with their family and friends.
We cannot wait to experience the new ideas and skills these interns bring to Partners for Our Children. We are confident they are will be a great asset to helping us improve the lives of vulnerable children and families.
