Recipients of Washington college grants must now repay the associated costs from their junior and senior years unless they are enrolled in a high demand program. 

HB2254 defines “high demand program" as baccalaureate degree program in which the projected employment demand exceeds the number of students per year prepared for employment from in-state programs in that career field by ten percent or more. 

Students not enrolled in high demand programs will be converted to zero percent interest student loans, to be paid into a Washington college grant loan repayment account. 

This bill amends previous WAC language from free to taxpayer funded.
