This bill aims to create a program to improve identification, assessment, and treatment of patients in the ER who are at risk of suicide. This includes developing procedures for identifying and assessing indivudals at risk of ruisice and enhancing care coordination after discharge.
Up to 40 eligible health care sites will be awarded grants under this program. Preference will be given to health care sites in a critical access or sole community hospital, a site operated by the Indian Health Service or other tribal organization, or health care sites located in areas with higher suicide rates than the national rate.
Grants can be used for staff training, staff recruitment, and developing and implementing best practices.
