Working to transform the child welfare system.

Designed to increase early engagement of birth parents whose children have recently entered foster care, the Pierce County Parent to Parent Program (P2PP) is coordinated by birth parents who have already successfully navigated the child welfare system and who have been successfully reunified with their children. Early evaluation of the program indicates that both parents and professionals feel the P2P Program reduces parents’ feeling of social isolation, resistance, and hopelessness, while providing valuable information about the child welfare and court systems. This formative evaluation of the P2P Program is shared here with the consent of Catalyst for Kids/Children’s Home Society of Western Washington.
