This brief examines the two-way link between poverty/homelessness/substandard housing and child welfare involvement. Evidence suggests that practitioners can help reduce the number of families re-referred for child abuse and neglect by providing poverty-related services (e.g., food, rent) and connecting families to services such as counseling.
