Sponsored by Rep. Orwall, HB 1376 clarifies that the required suicide prevention, treatment and management training must be at least 6 hours in length, unless a disciplinary authority has determined that training that include4s only screening and referral elements is appropriate for the profession in question, in which case the training must be at least 3 hours in length.  The bill also adjusts the date by which the first training must be completed from  June 7, 2012 to Jan 1, 2014.  Further, HB 1376 allows the board of physical therapy to approve training that includes only screening and referral elements if appropriate for physical therapy practitioners based on the practice setting.

Substitute bill:  As amended, HB 1376 allows the Board of Occupational Therapy to exempt occupational therapy practitioners from the suicide assessment, treatment, and management training based on brief or limited patient contact, instead of based on specialty.  The substitute bill also changes a reference to the Board of Physical Therapy to the Board of Occupational Therapy.
